Why convert CUT to HEIC?
CUT is the bitmap format of Media Cybernetics' Dr. Halo paint program for DOS, used in early PC graphics and clip art collections. The picture is decoded by ImageMagick at its original pixel size, keeping the artwork exactly as it was drawn.
HEIC uses High Efficiency Image Coding, the format iPhones and iPads save photos in, so the image is compact while staying sharp.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert CUT to HEIC?
Drop your CUT file above and press Convert. Our servers decode the CUT image with ImageMagick's Dr. Halo reader into a lossless PNG, then encode it in the format you chose. The result is saved as a HEIC image, ready to download.
What does a CUT file hold that ends up in the HEIC?
A single run-length encoded bitmap. ImageMagick's Dr. Halo decoder unpacks it, and that picture fills the HEIC.
Which programs produced the CUT images that convert to HEIC?
Dr. Halo, the DOS paint program from Media Cybernetics, and software that shipped its image libraries, such as early PC clip art collections and scanner utilities.
How big is the HEIC image from a CUT file?
The HEIC keeps the original pixel size of the Dr. Halo picture.
How compact is the HEIC made from a CUT file?
HEIC uses High Efficiency Image Coding, which typically needs about half the space of a JPG of similar quality, so even detailed pages stay small.
