Why convert CUT to BMP?
CUT is the bitmap format of Media Cybernetics' Dr. Halo paint program for DOS, used in early PC graphics and clip art collections. The picture is decoded by ImageMagick at its original pixel size, keeping the artwork exactly as it was drawn.
BMP stores every pixel uncompressed, so the image is exact and simple to read by any software that handles Windows bitmaps.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert CUT to BMP?
Drop your CUT file above and press Convert. Our servers decode the CUT image with ImageMagick's Dr. Halo reader into a lossless PNG, then encode it in the format you chose. The result is saved as an uncompressed BMP bitmap, ready to download.
What does a CUT file hold that ends up in the BMP?
A single run-length encoded bitmap. ImageMagick's Dr. Halo decoder unpacks it, and that picture fills the BMP.
Which programs produced the CUT images that convert to BMP?
Dr. Halo, the DOS paint program from Media Cybernetics, and software that shipped its image libraries, such as early PC clip art collections and scanner utilities.
How big is the BMP image from a CUT file?
The BMP keeps the original pixel size of the Dr. Halo picture.
What kind of BMP does the CUT converter create?
A standard Windows bitmap with every pixel stored uncompressed, so the image is an exact copy of the rendered result.
Is my .cut file kept private?
