How Crest Convert works

Crest Convert is a file conversion tool. Some conversions happen entirely in your browser using your device's built-in capabilities, meaning your files never leave your device. Other conversions may require server-side processing, in which case your files are uploaded securely, processed, and automatically deleted after a short period.

Where server-side processing is used, we will clearly indicate this on the relevant conversion page.

Data we collect

We may collect the following information to operate and improve our service:

• Pages visited and general usage patterns
• Approximate geographic region (country level)
• Browser type and device category
• Referral source
• Anonymous converter ratings, prompt interactions, and the converter used
• Optional feedback that you choose to type after submitting a rating
• Conversion success or failure, processing stage, safe error code, duration, and file-size range
• For server conversions, operational measurements such as input/output byte counts, media duration, codecs, dimensions, processing time, queue time, worker version, and estimated infrastructure cost

Ratings use a randomly generated browser identifier so we can measure prompt frequency and experiments without requiring an account. We do not attach filenames, file contents, or uploaded files to ratings. Please do not include personal or confidential information in optional feedback.

Conversion diagnostics do not contain a persistent browser identifier. They may include the converter, app version, browser and operating-system family and major version, and device category. We do not store exact device models, filenames, file contents, full URLs, local paths, raw user-agent strings, or raw technical error messages in these diagnostics.

File storage

For browser-based conversions, your files are processed locally and are never transmitted to our servers.

For server-based conversions, uploaded files are stored temporarily for the sole purpose of processing your conversion. Files are automatically and permanently deleted within 24 hours of upload. We do not access, review, or share the content of your files.

Cookies

We may use cookies for the following purposes:

• Essential cookies required for the website to function correctly
• Analytics cookies to understand how our site is used
• Advertising cookies from third-party ad networks

You can control cookie preferences through your browser settings. Disabling non-essential cookies will not affect the core conversion functionality.

Advertising

We may display advertisements on our site through third-party advertising networks. These networks may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your browsing activity. We do not share any personally identifiable information with advertisers.

You can opt out of personalised advertising through your browser settings or through industry opt-out tools such as the Digital Advertising Alliance's opt-out page.

Third-party services

Our site may load resources from third-party services including CDNs, font providers, analytics platforms, and advertising networks. These services have their own privacy policies and may collect data independently.

User accounts

If we offer user accounts in the future, we may collect additional information such as your email address and usage history. This information will be used solely to provide and improve our service. We will update this policy before introducing any such features.

Data retention

Analytics data is retained in aggregated form and cannot be linked to individual users. Uploaded files for server-based conversions are automatically deleted within 24 hours. Original input filenames are not retained for new conversions, and we do not maintain long-term storage of user files.

Converter ratings and optional feedback may be retained while they remain useful for diagnosing converter quality and evaluating the rating prompt. Anonymous conversion diagnostics are automatically deleted after 90 days.

Children's privacy

Our service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
