Why convert PCL to HEIC?

A PCL file is a print job written in HP's Printer Command Language, usually saved when a document is printed to a file for a LaserJet or compatible printer. The HEIC shows each page of the print job as the printer would produce it, with text, fonts, lines and graphics placed exactly where the PCL commands put them.

HEIC uses High Efficiency Image Coding, the format iPhones and iPads save photos in, so the image is compact while staying sharp.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert PCL to HEIC?expand_more
Drop your PCL file above and press Convert. Our servers interpret the PCL job with GhostPCL, write its pages to a PDF and render each page as an image. The result is saved as a HEIC image, ready to download.
Are the fonts and graphics in a PCL print job reproduced in the HEIC?expand_more
Yes. GhostPCL reads the PCL commands the way a printer does, so text in the printer's fonts, ruled lines, shading and raster graphics are all drawn onto the page before it becomes a HEIC.
Does the HEIC follow the paper size set in the PCL job?expand_more
Yes. The page size comes from the paper commands the printer driver wrote into the job, so A4, Letter and other sizes keep their proportions in the HEIC.
What happens when a PCL file fills several HEIC pages?expand_more
Each page is rendered at 144 dpi and saved as its own HEIC image, named page-1, page-2 and so on, and they download together as one ZIP. A single page downloads as one HEIC file.
How compact is the HEIC made from a PCL file?expand_more
HEIC uses High Efficiency Image Coding, which typically needs about half the space of a JPG of similar quality, so even detailed pages stay small.
Is my .pcl file kept private?expand_more
Your file is uploaded over an encrypted connection, converted on our servers and deleted automatically within 24 hours. We never read, share or keep your files, and no account is needed.
