Why convert EDI to GIF?
An EDI file holds an electronic data interchange message, such as an ANSI X12 or UN/EDIFACT purchase order, invoice or shipping notice exchanged between trading partners. The GIF shows an “EDI document” heading followed by the complete interchange exactly as written, set in a monospaced font with every segment and element intact.
GIF stores the image with an optimised palette of up to 256 colours, which suits text, diagrams and flat colour.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert EDI to GIF?
Drop your EDI file above and press Convert. Our servers check the file for an X12 or EDIFACT envelope, lay out its text as a document, export it to a PDF and render each page as an image. The result is saved as a GIF image, ready to download.
Are the separators in a EDI visible in the GIF?
Yes. The interchange appears character for character, so segment tags, element separators and terminators such as * and ~ are all shown in a monospaced font.
Which EDI standards can a EDI to GIF conversion read?
ANSI X12 interchanges, which open with an ISA segment, and UN/EDIFACT interchanges, which open with UNB, are both recognised and rendered.
What happens when a EDI file fills several GIF pages?
Each page is rendered at 144 dpi and saved as its own GIF image, named page-1, page-2 and so on, and they download together as one ZIP. A single page downloads as one GIF file.
How are colours handled in the EDI to GIF image?
GIF uses a palette of up to 256 colours. The converter builds an optimised palette from the rendered image, which keeps text, lines and solid colours clean.
Is my .edi file kept private?
Your file is uploaded over an encrypted connection, converted on our servers and deleted automatically within 24 hours. We never read, share or keep your files, and no account is needed.
