Why convert WBK to WebP?
A WBK file is the backup copy Microsoft Word saves when “Always create backup copy” is switched on, holding the previous saved version of a document. The WebP shows each page of the backed-up document with its text, styles, tables and pictures, laid out on the page size it was saved with.
WebP stores the rendered image in a modern, efficient format, so the file is noticeably smaller than an equivalent PNG or JPG.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert WBK to WebP?
Drop your WBK file above and press Convert. Our servers open the backup as a Word document in LibreOffice, export its pages to a PDF and render each page as an image. The result is saved as a compact WebP image, ready to download.
Which version of the document does a WBK show in the WebP?
A WBK holds the version of the document from before its most recent save, so the WebP shows the document exactly as it stood at that point.
Is a WBK read as a Word document for the WebP?
Yes. The backup is opened as a Word .doc file by LibreOffice, which lays out its text, styles, tables and pictures before each page is rendered as a WebP.
What happens when a WBK file fills several WebP pages?
Each page is rendered at 144 dpi and saved as its own WebP image, named page-1, page-2 and so on, and they download together as one ZIP. A single page downloads as one WebP file.
How much smaller is the WebP from a WBK file?
WebP typically produces files around a quarter to a third smaller than JPG at similar visual quality, and far smaller than PNG, while text and lines stay clear.
Is my .wbk file kept private?
Your file is uploaded over an encrypted connection, converted on our servers and deleted automatically within 24 hours. We never read, share or keep your files, and no account is needed.
