Why convert STEP to GIF?
STEP (ISO 10303) is the neutral exchange format for precise 3D CAD models, exported by SolidWorks, Fusion, CATIA, Inventor and most other engineering tools. FreeCAD reads the solid and every edge is projected into a standard isometric view, drawn as dark lines on white so the full wireframe of the part is visible.
GIF stores the image with an optimised palette of up to 256 colours, which suits text, diagrams and flat colour.
