Why convert PXL to HEIC?
A PXL file is PCL XL (PCL 6) printer output, the page description language modern HP and compatible printer drivers write when a document is printed to a file. The HEIC shows each printed page with its text, lines and images in the positions the PCL XL stream describes, just as the printer would output them.
HEIC uses High Efficiency Image Coding, the format iPhones and iPads save photos in, so the image is compact while staying sharp.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert PXL to HEIC?
Drop your PXL file above and press Convert. Our servers recognise the PCL XL stream, render it with GhostPCL's gpcl6 interpreter to a PDF and draw each page as an image. The result is saved as a HEIC image, ready to download.
How is a PCL XL PXL recognised before it becomes a HEIC?
The converter reads the start of the file for the PJL job header or the “HP-PCL XL” stream marker that PCL 6 drivers write, then renders the pages with GhostPCL.
Does a PXL printed from Windows keep its layout in the HEIC?
Yes. PCL XL describes every page with exact positions for text, vectors and images, and GhostPCL draws them in those positions, so the HEIC matches the printed layout.
What happens when a PXL file fills several HEIC pages?
Each page is rendered at 144 dpi and saved as its own HEIC image, named page-1, page-2 and so on, and they download together as one ZIP. A single page downloads as one HEIC file.
How compact is the HEIC made from a PXL file?
HEIC uses High Efficiency Image Coding, which typically needs about half the space of a JPG of similar quality, so even detailed pages stay small.
Is my .pxl file kept private?
