Why convert HPGL to TIFF?
HPGL is Hewlett-Packard's Graphics Language for pen plotters, a text command set of pen-up, pen-down and move instructions that CAD programs export for plotting. The pen movements are replayed by hp2xx to rebuild the drawing's linework, which is placed on a white page and rendered at 144 dpi.
TIFF is a long-established image format for archiving, scanning and print workflows, and it holds the rendered page at full resolution.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert HPGL to TIFF?
Drop your HPGL file above and press Convert. Our servers replay the HPGL commands with hp2xx into vector EPS, turn that into a PDF with Ghostscript, and render the page as the image you chose. The result is saved as a TIFF image, ready to download.
How does the TIFF show what the HPGL plotter pen drew?
Every pen-down stroke in the file is traced by hp2xx as a vector line, so the TIFF shows the linework the plotter would draw on paper.
Why does a HPGL file go through PDF on its way to TIFF?
hp2xx writes the drawing as vector EPS, and Ghostscript converts that into a PDF. Rendering the PDF at 144 dpi keeps each line crisp in the TIFF.
What happens when a HPGL file fills several TIFF pages?
Each page is rendered at 144 dpi and saved as its own TIFF image, named page-1, page-2 and so on, and they download together as one ZIP. A single page downloads as one TIFF file.
Is the TIFF from a HPGL file a single image?
Each rendered page is saved as its own standard TIFF image at full resolution. When there are several pages you receive one TIFF per page in a ZIP, numbered in order.
Is my .hpgl file kept private?
Your file is uploaded over an encrypted connection, converted on our servers and deleted automatically within 24 hours. We never read, share or keep your files, and no account is needed.
