Why convert CPGZ to HEIC?
CPGZ is a gzip-compressed cpio archive, the format macOS creates when it compresses or unpacks some downloads. The image shows the pages of the documents in the archive, such as PDF, Word, Excel and text files, or a contents page listing every file name when the archive holds other kinds of file.
HEIC uses High Efficiency Image Coding, the format iPhones and iPads save photos in, so the image is compact while staying sharp.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert CPGZ to HEIC?
Drop your CPGZ file above and press Convert. Our servers unpack the archive, convert the documents inside it to pages and render them. The result is saved as a HEIC image, ready to download.
What is shown when a CPGZ archive holding documents becomes HEIC?
Documents such as PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OpenDocument, RTF and text files are converted and rendered in alphabetical order of their paths.
What does the HEIC show for a CPGZ archive of other file types?
It shows a contents page listing the name of every file in the archive, so you can see at a glance what it holds.
What happens when a CPGZ file fills several HEIC pages?
Each page is rendered at 144 dpi and saved as its own HEIC image, named page-1, page-2 and so on, and they download together as one ZIP. A single page downloads as one HEIC file.
How compact is the HEIC made from a CPGZ file?
HEIC uses High Efficiency Image Coding, which typically needs about half the space of a JPG of similar quality, so even detailed pages stay small.
Is my .cpgz file kept private?
