Why convert CGM to ICO?
CGM (Computer Graphics Metafile) is the ISO vector graphics standard used for technical illustrations in aerospace, defence and engineering manuals. LibreOffice draws the metafile's lines, filled shapes and text onto a page, which is rendered at 144 dpi so the illustration stays crisp.
ICO output is a 256 × 256 pixel Windows icon: the image is scaled to fit with its proportions kept, and the surrounding space is transparent.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert CGM to ICO?
Drop your CGM file above and press Convert. Our servers open the CGM with LibreOffice, export it as a PDF and render each page of that PDF as the image you chose. The result is saved as a 256 × 256 ICO icon, ready to download.
Do the text labels in a CGM illustration show up in the ICO?
Yes. LibreOffice imports the metafile's text along with its lines and filled shapes, so callouts and labels are drawn in place.
Are the fills and colours of a CGM illustration kept in the ICO?
LibreOffice draws the filled areas, line colours and text as the metafile defines them, and the page is rendered at 144 dpi in full colour.
Which part of the CGM becomes the ICO icon?
The first page of the rendered content is used for the icon, fitted inside the 256 × 256 square with its proportions kept.
What size is the ICO made from a CGM file?
The icon is 256 × 256 pixels, the largest standard Windows icon size. The image is fitted inside the square with its proportions kept and a transparent surround, stored as a PNG-compressed icon.
Is my .cgm file kept private?
Your file is uploaded over an encrypted connection, converted on our servers and deleted automatically within 24 hours. We never read, share or keep your files, and no account is needed.
