Why convert ABW to PNG?
An ABW file is the native XML document format of AbiWord, the free word processor available for Linux, Windows and other systems. The PNG shows each page of the document with its paragraphs, headings, character formatting, tables and embedded images laid out by LibreOffice.
PNG keeps every pixel exactly as rendered, so text, thin lines and flat colours stay crisp, and transparency is preserved.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert ABW to PNG?
Drop your ABW file above and press Convert. Our servers open the AbiWord document in LibreOffice, export its pages to a PDF and render each page as an image. The result is saved as a lossless PNG, ready to download.
Are AbiWord headings and text formatting kept in the PNG from a ABW?
Yes. LibreOffice reads AbiWord's paragraph styles and character formatting, so headings, bold, italic and underlined text appear in the PNG as they do in the document.
Do pictures embedded in a ABW appear in the PNG?
Yes. ABW files store their images inside the document, and each one is placed on the page where the document positions it before the page is rendered.
What happens when a ABW file fills several PNG pages?
Each page is rendered at 144 dpi and saved as its own PNG image, named page-1, page-2 and so on, and they download together as one ZIP. A single page downloads as one PNG file.
Why is PNG a good fit for a ABW conversion?
PNG is lossless: the image keeps every rendered pixel with no compression artefacts, which keeps small text, table lines and drawings perfectly sharp.
Is my .abw file kept private?
Your file is uploaded over an encrypted connection, converted on our servers and deleted automatically within 24 hours. We never read, share or keep your files, and no account is needed.
